Just two weeks to go until race day!
Sunday May 1, Bethells Beach
The long-range weather forecast is looking promising – it should be a fantastic day. High tide at Bethell’s Beach is around 8:40 am so there should be some nice firm sand for the beach section of the run. In the early years of SuperDune the run was notorious for coinciding with high tide, meaning a hard slog through the soft sand.
Of course, the beach section is not the only place where competitors encounter soft sand. Both the 11km run and the multisport run leg traverse the mighty sand dune up to Lake Wainamu.
For 26 years athletes from all over Auckland and beyond have been competing in SuperDune multisport race to test their mettle. The current course is still pretty much the same as the original, with a slight alteration to the run leg and the elimination of the portage. The toughest section of the race used to be when the kayakers had to portage their boats 1.5km across the sand dune to the finish line!
Don’t feel up to doing the whole race yourself? Grab a couple of mates and compete as a team, or just enter the scenic 11km run.
Go on, you know you want to!
The SuperDune multisport race comprises of four legs:
• 42 km road cycle
• 1.5 km run
• 10 km paddle
• 10 km run
Also on offer is an 11km run which follows the multisport run course.
