Superdune Adventure Festival

In it's new format the Superdune becomes a celebration of the West Coast spirit:

Always ready for a new adventure and a whole lot of fun!

Off-road Run Event

With 3 different distances to choose from (5km, 10km and 21km) you don't need to be superfit to come and be part of the fun. All 3 courses offer a bit of a wee adventure with stream crossings, tackling Bethells Beach and it's sand dunes and magnificent trails in between to piece it all together. Click here for full details on the race

Multisport Event

The Multisport event starts with a 42km road cycle which loops from Bethells beach through the northern end of the Waitakere ranges. Next is a short 1.5km run up and over the massive sand dune - this part of the course is obviously where the event got it’s name from - to Lake Wainamu for the third leg, a 10km flat water paddle around the beautiful lake. The fourth leg is a 10km run first through a stream, then along a trail climbing above Bethells with incredible views of the West Coast. The trail continues on and pops out at O'Neils beach from where competitors follow the beach back towards the finish line at the reserve.  Click here for full details on the race »

Surf Ski Event

NEW for 2010, the Surf Ski race will be the most adventorous event option at this year's Superdune. The race will start at Bethells (deep water start) and go to Piha and back, with the finish on the beach. Surf Life Saving NZ are taking care of the safety aspect but regardless this is not a race for the novice paddler or faint-hearted! Click here for full details on the race

Hosted by the Waitemata Canoe and Multisport Club

The club is Auckland’s most active canoe and multisport club and is the ideal place when you want to get into either sport. The club is also great for people training to do the Coast to Coast or other multisport events.

If you want to give the Superdune a go but have never kayaked before then the club can help you out and even arrange a kayak for the day.

The 2010 Superdune will be the 25th anniversary of this event so time has proven the popularity of it. On average 200 people every year have competed and previous winners include Coast to Coast champion Gordon Walker, German expat and multisport ace Marcel Hagener, legendary hardwoman Joanne Gosse and WCMC's own Louise Mark.

The Superdune is also extremely popular with support crew and friends because there is hardly any driving involved and the scenery is stunning, making it a great day out for everyone. If you are stuck for a support crew you can even do the event without one!

All in all the Superdune is one super event not to be missed!

Third annual event.

The pinnacle of open fresh water paddling.

The Trans Taupo attracted 77 craft and over 100 paddlers to the inaugural event in 2008, challenging competitors to a 45km paddle race across the pure crystal mountain fed waters of NZ and Australasia’s largest freshwater lake.

A human powered journey from Tokaanu to Taupo, the Trans Taupo is open to Sea Kayaks, Surf Ski’s, Waka ama, and Ocean Rowers, with both a solo and a team relay categories.

Visit the event website for further details, the 2008/09 results, race report, photos and video coverage of the first to conquer the lake.
